How Does 1010data Improve Business Intelligence?

In a typical Business Intelligence architecture, there is an underlying data warehouse (usually a relational database) that supports SQL queries and a BI analysis layer that provides a way of producing tabular and graphical reports. The database manager itself is capable of supporting a fairly wide range of analysis (although it may operate efficiently only within limited constraints) but it has no native graphical user interface. Using it requires expertise in the use of SQL and computer programming languages. The BI layer supplies a sophisticated interface that makes it possible for even non technical people to manipulate the data and create presentation-quality reports but, in doing so, constrains the range of analysis that the user can do. In other words, the BI layer gives the user access to only some of the capabilities of the back-end database.

As shown in the following diagram, the combination of data warehouse and BI layer yields a high presentation quality in both how the data and tools are presented to the user and how the results of analysis can be shown. The breadth of analysis and speed are constrained by the limitations of the data warehouse and further limited to the types of analysis supported by the BI software.

1010data starts with a proprietary database manager, Tenbase, that can natively handle a much wider range of analysis and process queries faster than any competing technology. We then add a user interface layer, 1010Vision, that is not only user friendly, but gives the user access to the full power and performance of the back end. The result is an architecture that gives even non-technical users unprecedented power.

The next diagram depicts how 1010data's basic product significantly improves on the breadth of analysis and speed of execution of the classical approach, while offering a user-friendly interface.

1010Vision includes the ability to produce a range of presentation quality reports and charts, but our primary focus is on analytical breadth and rapid query development and execution. We therefore do not offer the full range of report and chart formatting options of popular BI tools. For users who require the most advanced presentation capabilities, BI software can be further layered on top of our system. With or without the BI layer, the net result is a simple architecture that allows users to develop complex analyses quickly and run them quickly.
