Giving Group Adopts 1010data’s Data Analytics Platform

1010data Moves into UK Marketplace, by Providing Powerful Analytics for an Organization that Services Over 9,000 Non-Profits for Fundraising, Charities and Gift Giving

NEW YORK – February 14, 2011 – 1010data, Inc., the provider of the leading hosted, big data analytics platform, today announced that they have reached an important milestone by signing The Giving Group, headquartered in London as a client. The Giving Group operates JustGiving.com in the UK and FirstGiving.com in the US. This marks 1010data's first entry into the international marketplace.

JustGiving, the UK's first online fundraising website, has provided hosted services for fundraising, charities and gift giving for over 9,000 non-profit organizations. JustGiving has helped these groups raise over $1 billion with donations from over 12 million people since they began operation 10 years ago. Their success has driven them to expand into other regions with FirstGiving and JustGiving Japan, and to install a Global CTO, Marc Stein.

Because The Giving Group had outgrown their existing database infrastructure, with efforts to maintain and manage it getting out- of-hand and with increasingly onerous hardware requirements, they had decided to pursue alternatives. Consulting the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Appliances and investigating some of the "top-right" solutions, they were disheartened by what they saw based on the complexity of implementation, time to delivery and cost. Stein had known of 1010data from a previous position and decided to re-evaluate their strategy.

Rather than simply building upon their existing SQL database technology they decided to make a quantum change and move to a radically more advanced technology. They surveyed a full range of alternative technologies and approaches before settling upon the columnar database technology of 1010data, based upon its astounding performance combined with an amazingly short implementation time and reasonable cost.

"From the moment we saw the initial demo, we knew that 1010data's Data Analytics as a Service platform had the potential to be a game-changer for us," commented Stein. “However, we still had skeptics among the IT ranks and we needed to see our data on the 1010data platform. Within a day of receiving our data, they had it completely loaded and were ready to give us a demo and have us fire ad-hoc questions at them. Although we were amazed by what we saw, the technical team was also running these same queries on our existing system in the background and on other solutions we were evaluating from other vendors. On average, with 1010data our queries would run in one second, while the same queries, on the nearest 1010data competitor, would run six-times slower.“
